Plugged Ducts

Plugged ducts can happen if your breasts remain engorged for too long or even pressure on the duct from tight bra or diaper bag. Stress and fatigue can also bring on plugged ducts! 😨

You may feel sore in one area, there may be a red spot or tenderness, and there may be a hard lump. 🔴

Your milk may also come out “stringy” or lumpy but it is ok for baby to consume. 👌🏻 Get plenty of rest, fluids, and nutritious meals. DO NOT STOP BREASTFEEDING! Continuing to feed or pump will help alleviate the plugged duct. Try a feeding position with baby’s chin pointing towards the plugged duct or try “dangle feeding” to allow gravity to help! 🤱

Massage and hot compresses can also be beneficial. 🧖🏽‍♀️

It is important to deal with plugged ducts immediately as they can sometimes lead to mastitis. 😩
