Home Base
As a postpartum doula, I get asked the question βAm I putting Baby to my breast too much?β ALL the time. The answer is always nope, itβs impossible to put a newborn to your breast too often! ππΌ Breasts are not just a source of food - your breasts are Home Base for Baby. There, Baby derives multiples sources of comfort - body heat, the sound of your voice plus womb sounds like the sound of your breathing and heart beating π Also, for a newborn that can really only see around 8 inches in front of them, being at your breast is the perfect distance to be able to see Mama π€± There are more benefits to non-nutrient sucking such as bonding and aiding in digestion ππ» So mama, itβs ok to hold your baby a little longer, to get all the snuggles and cuddles in that you want! It wonβt spoil Baby or create bad habits but it will give you a lifetime of memories and a place for Baby to always feel safe π«
